Role Purpose:

Responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, employees and medical staff. Protects and ensures all buildings, grounds and parking lots are safe and secure. Also responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the policies and philosophy of SSM Health Care.


  • Promotes exceptional patient satisfaction by responding to, but not limited to, suspicious activities, thefts, combative patients/visitors, emergency alarms/codes/conditions, and visitor injuries/falls.

  • Promotes exceptional safety by maintaining a security presence while securing buildings, patrolling parking facilities, and reporting any deficiencies in a proactive and timely manner.

  • Contributes to the overall employee satisfaction of the department by actively participating in department staff meetings/planning and offering assistance to all coworkers when needed.

  • Delivers exceptional employee satisfaction by providing security escorts upon request.

  • Promotes exceptional financial performance by effectively managing time, security rounds, and turning off all lights in unoccupied spaces.

  • Encourages exceptional clinical/service outcomes by assisting with patient transports, via vehicles/helicopters, as needed.

  • Generates exceptional growth by utilizing personal strategies and tactics that provide a safe and healing environment within our health care facilities for our patients.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School or equivalent (GED)

  • St. Louis City/County Metropolitan Security License (obtained within 30 days if primary facility, 90 days if secondary), St. Charles County Security License (obtained within 30 days if primary facility, 90 days if secondary), current Driver's License, St. Louis City/County and St. Charles County Baton License (obtained within 90 days)

  • One to three years Security Officer experience. Health Care experience preferred. Familiar with municipal, city and state laws.

  • Interpersonal skills and effective oral and written communication skills.

  • The ability to use a radio, video equipment, protective devices, baton, and other equipment as needed.
