The Visiting Assistant Professor is a non-tenure track position held by an individual who possesses all the qualifications to be appointed at that rank or who has held that rank at another institution. The Visiting Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor.
Description of Primary Duties
Duties of the Assistant Professor are described in the Faculty Handbook (http://www.missouristate.edu/assets/policy/FacultyHandbook_2015-07-13b.pdf). The Assistant Professor will teach graduate courses online and serve as academic advisor to Missouri State University students in the graduate TESOL program who are enrolled in the iELT-Ozarks Project. This position is subject to the availability of grant funding, not tenure eligible.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
Additional qualifications include • PhD/EdD in TESL or closely related field, degree completed by August 2017; • evidence of successful teaching; • proficiency in a foreign language; • ESOL/ELL certified teaching experience in K-12 schools; • excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; • skills and interest in online teaching.
