Job Description:

A Technology Architect on the DeviceWorks Team develops technical architectures, frameworks and strategies, either for an organization or for a major application area, to meet the business and application requirements. The Technology Architect is responsible for identifying new enabling technologies and platforms to help solve technical challenges. The Technology Architect analyzes technical issues related to the implementation of new technologies or even the customization of existing technologies for a client. Performs research to identify when to appropriately partner with 3rd party software and/or device manufacturers and works closely with those 3rd parties to architect solutions that provides seamless integration with new or existing Cerner software solutions. The Technology Architect serves as a subject matter expert for one or more Cerner software solutions.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

  • Develops documentation for Cerner software solutions - architecture, installation, maintenance, best practices, etc.

  • Supports sales associates throughout the sales process (including client pre-sales calls, demos, and onsite technical design sessions)

  • Provides knowledge transfer and escalated support to a group of Cerner Technology Consultants who implement Cerner software solutions

  • Provides knowledge transfer and escalated support to a group of Cerner Support Engineers who provide support for Cerner software solutions

  • Consults with clients on system software environment and hardware configuration decisions

  • Provides guidance to a team of QA (quality assurance) test analysts on how to appropriate test the Cerner software solution

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration or a related field.

  • Experience as a Technology Consultant, System Engineer, Integration Architect, Solution Architect or similar role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing and troubleshooting Apple iOS and/or Google Android mobile devices

  • Experience with Airwatch or other MDM/EMM solutions

  • Experience with standard network technologies - TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, SSL, WiFi (802.11)

  • Experience working with Cerner's CareAware iBus platform

  • Experience working with the following Cerner solutions: CareAware Connect, AlertLink, StaffLink, Clairvia


  • Ability to travel 20-40%

  • Ability to be based in the Kansas City metro area

  • Experience troubleshooting complex issues within multi-tiered architectures

  • Knowledge of sublicense software

  • Experience with systems management and operations for client/server applications

  • Experience managing large, complex full cycle technology implementations

  • Experience implementing client/server applications

  • Possess decision making skills as well as the ability to deal with ambiguity

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to effectively communicate (email and verbal) with client leadership at the CXO level
